Pupil Wellbeing

Place2Be

Place2be is a childresn’s mental health charity with over 25 years experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools.

They provide mental health support in schools through one-to-one and group counselling using tried and tested methods backed by research.

The/Our school counsellors work for Place2Be .  We have Donna McLaren (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) and Julie Christie-Marr (Wed). They are situated in the main foyer of the school next to the first aid room.  To access counselling, a young person would go to their guidance teacher and ask for a referral to be done.  Donna or Julie will undertake an assessment when a referral is received, to see if counselling is appropriate and could be helpful.  If counselling is to go ahead then it will involve up to 10 weekly sessions in school, during periods that fit within timetable considerations.  If counselling is not thought to be appropriate, our councillors will suggest alternative forms of support within or out with school.
