Rights Respecting School
In June 2022 the school received the bronze award for becoming committed to The Rights Respecting School Award and in October 2024 achieved our Silver award – a great achievement for TEAM PA! We are now on our journey to Gold.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award puts children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK.
The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Our Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
Schools involved in the Rights Respecting Schools Award work towards the recognition that they have embedded children’s and young people’s rights in their school’s practice and ethos. Schools are required to implement three evidence-based strands that cover the leadership of the school, knowledge and understanding of children’s rights, ethos and relationships and the empowerment of children and young people.
There are three levels to the Award:

At Peth Academy we are working hard to embed children’s rights at the heart of school policy and practice, enabling leaders and teachers to strengthen pupil’s sense of belonging and voice, and to create an environment for great learning.
Here are some examples:
- Rights are embedded in all appropriate school policies, e.g., relationships, equalities, anti-bullying etc
- A rights-based approach is embedded in improving health and well-being
- Our pupil ambassadors are part of our pupil voice team – leading rights-based activities across the school
- We have strategic plan for embedding rights across the curriculum
- All staff are engaged in professional learning in relation to rights
- Rights are embedded in values and vision – for example our corridor charter outlines the need for safety in school
