Child Protection

Child Protection

Child protection has to be seen in the context of the wider Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) approach, the Early Years Framework and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Child protection must be seen within the wide context of supporting families and meeting children’s needs through GIRFEC.

GIRFEC promotes action to improve the wellbeing of all children and young people across eight wellbeing indicators, commonly referred to as SHANARRI. These wellbeing indicators encourage practitioners to consider the holistic needs of children in relation to them being Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, Included.   The primary indicator for child protection is to keep a child Safe.

At Perth Academy we place great emphasis on responding to and supporting children in difficulty. Where this difficulty may be related to child abuse or related issues, we co-operate closely with social work, the police and other agencies. National Guidance for all Child Protection Agencies (“Protecting Children”) requires schools to report if they believe that a child may come to harm as a consequence of possible abuse.
