Transitions

Transitions are the moves children and young people make from primary to secondary, between schools, between the Broad General Education (S1-3) and The Senior Phase (S4-6) and from secondary to further education and beyond.

Transitions and changes are part of everyone's life. The vast majority of children and young people look forward to moving on. However transitions can be challenging and support from parents and school staff can help the transitions go more smoothly.

What can parents do?

It helps children and young people at all transitions if parents:

  • talk with them about what is going to happen

  • encourage them to ask questions

  • encourage them to talk about any concerns they may have

  • listen carefully to their concerns and consider sharing them with other relevant people

  • help them to become familiar with the new setting and what will be expected of them

The three main transitions that affect Perth Academy students are P7-S1, the transition from Broad General Education (S1-3) to The Senior Phase (S4-6) and from secondary to further education and beyond. More information for each of these can be found by clicking the link.

At Perth Academy we support our young people at each of these transition stages. Peers, classroom teachers, Form Tutors, Guidance and Pupil Support all have a role to play. Should you have any concerns over any aspect of your child's praparation for transition, do not hesistate to contact the school.
